I just found out my 3.5 year old collie mix is positive for Lyme Disease. The vet put him on meds for the next three weeks and said he would be fine. i couldn’t really find much info on the disease. Any info would be great. Will he be cured? Will he be more prone to it in the future?I know I should have asked the vet this but it was a Sat. and had my other 2 animals in there too. It was a mad house there, sort of got puched out the door.

Lyme Disease is not fun. Though I’ve only seen one case working at the vet for 5 years. I’m surprised they didn’t give you the info about Lyme disease. Well, here is a link to Veterinary Partner. com – I send all of my clients to this website to get true information from real vets about all kinds of pet stuff. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=1588This will hopefully help you understand about Lyme without me filling too much space here!Good Luck and keep your other pets on Frontline to prevent them from getting lyme and vaccinate for it too!

    Have a look here.

My dog recently got diagnosed with lyme disease and i can’t find any information on ongoing or current studies about improving treatment methods. I was also interested if there are any “new treatments” that are still undergoing testing, but are showing positive results that my dog can possible partake in. If you can’t tell, my life is upside down right now. I know i may seem a bit dramatic, but if any of you who read this had any idea how important and meaningful my dog is in my life, you’d understand id sell my own body parts just to make him okay again.=/

You can check with The Institute for Genetic Disease Control in Animals. Although this is a place for GENETIC issues they would be a good starting point to ask if they know of any on going studies. I would also check into New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. I am sure they would also be able point you in the right direction.

You can contact your closest veterinary teaching hospital. They might be able to tell you or have a program available. Most times positive lyme cases are placed on doxycycline for 30 days.
